Texas to hold Pacquiao docu’s world premiere

Manny Pacquiao

Before the much-awaited Manny Pacquiao-Timothy Bradley rematch in April, the world will have a glimpse of Pacquiao’s life story on the big screen.

“Manny,” the documentary film about the boxing icon, will hold its world premiere from March 7 to 15 at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival in Austin, Texas.

According to the film’s official website, Texas holds a special significance to Pacquiao because it’s where he earned his eighth world title in his eight-weight division record. Pacquiao is expected to be inducted in the boxing hall of fame in the near future.

Dubbed “the inspiring true story of a fighter,” Manny’s movie is directed by Academy Award-winner Leon Gast (“When We Were Kings”) and Ryan Moore, who followed the Filipino boxing champion around for four years.

“You can expect to see a side of Manny you’ve never seen. We’ve been filming for four years now so we’ve followed Manny everywhere, so you’ll definitely get an inside look into Manny’s life,” shared the Fil-Am co-director Moore in an interview aired on “TV Patrol.”

The People’s Champ hopes for his documentary to inspire people. “Happy ako na makapagbigay ng inspirasyon sa lahat ng mga fans, sa lahat ng mga tao,” Pacquiao said in the same “TV Patrol” report.

“Manny” also chronicles Pacquiao as history’s first boxing congressman and how he fights for his people “inside and outside of the ring.”

“Why do I box? Why do I fight? Because it’s God’s will,” Pacquiao was quoted as saying in his film’s official trailer.

Narrated by Liam Neeson, “Manny” features interviews from noted celebrities and personalities, among them are Mark Wahlberg, Jeremy Piven and Jimmy Kimmel. “Manny” hits Philippine theaters on March 12. (Jecelyn V. Macahindog/mb.com.ph)
