BABE IN THE MANGER – Before anything else, Highspeed greets its readers: A blessed and joyful Christmas. It’s not the best of times, but just the same life goes on. May we all remember that more than merry-making and gift-giving, Christmas is the season of loving and forgiving.

And that center of the celebration is the Babe who was born in the manger.

SEE YOU AT – At the movies, of course. Dec. 25 happens to be the start of the 39th Metro Manila Film Festival, when eight Filipino movies are shown Metrowide… actually the rest of the country.

It’s the most awaited cinema event – for once only locally produced films are exhibited in theaters. While the filmfest is supposed to be confined to the Metro areas, provincial theaters, not wanting to be left behind, also join the event.

Metro Manila Developments Authority Chairman Atty. Francis Tolentino, who’s also the overall head of MMFF, says that part of the proceeds of the filmfest will go to Yolanda victims. Must be said though that only Metro Manila theaters remit amusement taxes to MMFF.

Actually, MMFF has given P500,000 to Yolanda victims.

VARIETIES – The spice of the filmfest, eight films appealing to different, audiences, young and old alike.

“Boy Golden” – action drama set in the ’60s, Jeorge Estregan (aka ER Ejercito) and KC Concepcion.

“Pedro Calungsod” – religious drama, Rocco Nacino.

“Pagpag” – Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo, horror-thriller.

“My Little Bossings” – comedy, Vic Sotto, Ryzza Mae Dizon, Bimby Aquino-Yap, and Kris Aquino.
