MR. INT’L – More of our countrymen are joining beauty pageants, men and women alike. Highspeed correspondent Jay P. Delgado files this report:

Today (Nov. 21), two major pageant events will unfold – The Mister International 2013 grand finals in Jakarta, Indonesia; and the Miss Earth 2013 press presentation in Taguig City, Metro Manila.

More than 40 delegrates worldwide including our very own Gil Tan Wagas, Jr. will be vying for the coveted crown currently held by Ali Hammoud of Lebanon.

Gil, a 21-year-old BS Hotel & Restaurant Management student of the University of Cebu and a former varsity basketball player for the UE Red Warriors, will try to follow the victorious feat of Batangas hunk June Macasaet, who won as Manhunt International 2012 in Bangkok, Thailand last year.

During his sendoff press conference at the K-Pub in The Fort, Taguig City recently, Gil vowed to do his best to win the Mister International title. At 6 feet 3 inches, Gil is one of the tallest contestants now gathered in Indonesia. He won the Mister International Philippines title last June and has since embarked on a rigorous preparation for the pageant including gym sessions, walking and projecting lessons as well as personality enhancement training.

The grand finals will be held at the Skenoo Hall in Jakarta. Mister International is one of the top 3 international pageants for males along with Manhunt International and Mr. World.

MISS EARTH – Meanwhile, more than 90 Miss Earth contestants from around the world will be presented to members of media today at the F1 Hotel in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. Host-delegate Angelee Claudette Francisco delos Reyes, 25, will attempt to become the second Filipina Miss Earth winner after Karla Henry in 2008.

Angelee, a 25-year-old, 5’8” registered nurse and public relations officer of the Subic Bay Development Authority, is a multi-titled beauty queen from Olongapo City. She was Miss Bikini Philippines and a Miss Bikini International top 10 finalist (in Qingdao, China) in 2011. She was also a top 10 finalist at the Supermodel International pageant in Bangkok, Thailand last year.

Angelee reveals that she has been 101 percent focused on her taining and other preparations for the 13th Miss Earth finals to be held at Versailles Palace in Muntinlupa City on Dec. 7. Prior to that, the contestants will be divided into several groups that will tour different places in the country including Sorsogon and Iloilo that have been affected by super typhoon Yolanda.

Miss Earth is the only environmental advocacy-driven international beauty pageant that has been seriously campaigning to protect our environment and initiate steps to control global warming by adopting a “green” lifestyle. (Jay P. Delgado)
