‘Ser Chief’ realizes his first dream

Manila, Philippines – RICHARD Yap, popularly known among televiewers as “Ser Chief,” from his role in the top-rating morning teleserye “Be Careful with My Heart,” has fulfilled another dream of his – to be a singer.

In a recent press conference held at the Palacio de Maynila along Roxas Blvd. to launch his debut album under Star Records, Richard revealed that when he was younger, all he wanted was to be a lounge singer. After all, he had a background in singing, having been a member of a glee club when he was in high school.

“But I didn’t think I could make it as a recording artist or even as an actor,” Richard said.

As to his preparation in recording the album, he said that two years ago, he took up singing lessons which he needed for a show but after that, he wasn’t able to go back, “ang preparation ko ‘yung mga mall shows namin.”

Richard shared that his album is just like their TV series, a feel-good, easy-listening collection of tracks composed of nine revivals that were all chosen by “Ser Chief” himself.

The carrier single is “Don’t Know What to Do, Don’t Know What to Say.”

Describing the album, Richard said “it covers all genres, from pop to ballad to alternative.” The other tracks are “If a Promise Ain’t Enough,” “Think I’m in Love Again,” “Can Find No Reason,” the Chinese version of “Oh Babe” and the bonus track “Salamat.”

Asked about his other plans, Richard said “If I pursue another thing, baka hindi ko na kakayanin. I’ll just continue to hone my craft for the meantime … ” But he stressed that acting and singing are equally important to him.
