‘Starry’ Million People March shines on social media

Celebrities post on Instagram their ‘represent’ photos for the Million People March held at the Quirino Grandstand, Monday

The Million People March held Monday at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila turned out to be a colorful one what with the presence of some celebrities who made time to unite with people who want the government’s Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) or “pork barrel” scrapped.

Famous faces spotted at the venue were veteran actors Leo Martinez, Jun Urbano and Noel Trinidad, singer Jim Paredes, husband and wife Robin Padilla and Mariel Rodriguez, Mylene Dizon and former beauty queen Gloria Diaz, “Bandila” reported. Mae “Juana Change” Paner, who wore a pig mask, and Ronnie Lazaro were also in attendance.

Among those who took to social media to let the public know that they are in attendance were:

Ito Rapadas, said to be the brainchild of the protest. He said via Twitter (@itorapadas): “Isang martsa, isang hakbang. Para sa kinabukasan ng ating mga anak.”

TV host Bianca Gonzales (@iamsuperbianca), who went with her friends, said: “Proud to be part of the fight! #ScrapPork #MillionPeopleMarch.”

Actor/host Edu Manzano (@RealEduManzano), on the other hand, posted his photo with a crowd. His caption read: “United not by personality or incentive, but because of a SHARED IDEOLOGY.”

Father and son Pen and Ping Medina were also present. Ping posted via Instagram (pingmedina): “The Medinas don’t like baboy. #MillionPeopleMarch #AbolishPork #YesToBacon #NoToCorruption.”

Celebrity cousins Isabelle Daza and Georgina Wilson didn’t mind the heat (of course, with their sunglasses on). Through Isabelle’s Instagram (isabelledaza) post, she said, “Here in Luneta for the #millionpeoplemarch!”

Comedienne Candy Pangilinan, who went with friends Arnell Ignacio and directors Joey Reyes and Manny Castañeda, posted on Instagram (realcandypangilinan): “Anti Pork Barrel #notoporkbarrel #luneta #millionmarch.”

Ramon Bautista (@ramonbautista) tweeted in jest: “Kita tayo sa Luneta. Ako yung naka white.”

TV host Raymond Gutierrez was also in attendance. “In Luneta to stand up for change. It’s important for young people to care & make sure the next gen doesn’t suffer the same consequences,” he tweeted.

“Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala” star Mylene Dizon said in an interview with ANC that she joined the Million People March because “gusto ko malaman ano nangyayari sa buwis ko.” GMA News reported that TV5’s Willie Revillame also went to join the protest.

Mariel Rodriguez posted photos on Instagram account (marieltpadilla) saying that their participation is called anti-pork picnic. Robin’s brother Rommel Padilla was also present.

Robin, for his part, posted several Instagram videos (on his account robinhoodpadilla) of their experience at Million People March taken as early as 7 a.m. He said in one post: “I think that I shall never see a revolution planted like a tree.”

One in spirit

Although they were not physically present at the big event, some celebrities expressed unity through social media.

Anne Curtis, who has over five million followers on Twitter, shared a photo captioned: “Pinoy kami. We pay our taxes, on-time & in-full. You, our government owe us a full explanation. – Million People March.”

Actor Dingdong Dantes (@iamdongdantes), on the other hand, wrote: “today,i join in spirit the #MillionPeopleMarch in calling 4 d abolition of the pork barrel, and its mutation to any similar form or intent.”

Singer and “Be Careful With My Heart” actress Aiza Seguerra (@aizaseguerra) tweeted: “Ako si Aiza Seguerra. Pilipino. Tax payer. San niyo dinadala pinaghihirapan namin? We deserve to know the TRUTH!!! #MillionPeopleMarch.”

OPM advocate, singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid (@ogiealcasid) posted: “Happy heroes day. Today we celebrate patriotism. #MillionPeopleMarch.”

Comedian Vice Ganda (@vicegandako), who wasn’t able to go to Luneta because of work, said: “Ako’y magsusuot ng puti sa Showtime bilang pakikiisa sa Anti-Pork Barrel Protest.”

On Instagram, Kapuso stars Camille Prats (camilleprats) and Mike Tan (imiketan) also shared photos saying: “Today is the day we all said NO to corruption. #MillionPeopleMarch August 26, 2013” and “Makibaka, ’wag magbaboy.”
